Depression is a dirty liar. It will tell you that you’re the only one dealing with mental illness. Depression will make you feel like an outcast from within your own brain. It says that you’re weird, and nobody gets you. Even more, the current stigma doesn’t help things one bit. That’s why it’s important that we remember that we are not alone in our struggles. There can still be strength in our numbers.

While every experience is unique, there are still a lot of commonalities. I hear many stories from Sad Runner Readers who open up about their pain. I can say that, while everyone is different, I listen to some very similar things.

Don’t believe your illness. You are not alone.

I’m not even just referring to the US. Depression is a global condition. Youth mental disorders, rank as the second highest hospital care expenditure in Canada. It’s literally, accidents, and then mental health for young people. So why are we lead to believe we’re the only ones? It’s the lies from within.

More than anything, you must know that you can overcome this. There are too many people losing their fight with depression.

In 2013, they recorded 6,233 suicides in the UK alone. That’s 6,233 too many, and it wasn’t supposed to happen. That’s 6,233 families torn apart. That’s 6,233 sets of parents who will forever unnecessarily question if they did something wrong. That’s 6,233 stories that were not supposed to end yet. They had a place in this world, and they had a purpose. Just like you.

Depression doesn’t have to be the end of your story. Please know that you aren’t weird, or alone. There are many like you who are fighting this, and it doesn’t need to end your life. You can overcome depression and anxiety and live your life despite it.

Many people live with depression and still achieve their dreams, and it is my vision that this website serves as proof of that. Don’t let depression stop you.

Take a look at this infographic and these depression statistics. Let the numbers sink in. These are real people just like you. Men, women, teenagers all dealing with the same crappy weight you are.

Don’t listen to your illness today. You’re not weird, there are many just like us.
