I’ve written before about the benefits of meditation for depression. Meditation calms the whirlwind of crap that always swirls around inside my head. I finally get a moment of peace from the anxiousness and aggravation that comes from my condition.
Meditation seems mysterious and confusing to many, but it is easy to try. In fact, compared to some of the other treatments for depression, this ranks as one of the easiest. Still, people don’t utilize it enough.
Even more, there are apps out there to make meditation even easier for you, so there’s no excuse.
Calm is an exceptional website (and app) that makes meditation easy and accessible. I’ve been using it since the beginning, and I’ve been pleased with the features they continue to roll out. Despite having so much to offer, they haven’t strayed from the simplicity that makes the site so effective.
At its core, Calm is a website and app that easily gets you into relaxation mode. The minute I sit down in a chair with the app, I start to feel a little more relaxed. I actually prefer the website over the app. Maybe that’s the web designer in me, but I really think the site is unique and has an outstanding experience. If I have a free minute or two, I just click over to Calm for a quick vacation from the day.
These mini-relaxation sessions are what meditation is. You don’t need to be a monk or read 100 books on the subject to get the benefits. Just get to your computer or grab your smartphone and you’re good to go.
When you visit Calm, you’re able to select one of 29 different relaxation scenes. From rainy days to underwater, find what gets you in the meditation mood.
However, there is plenty more under the hood. You can set a timer for your mediation session, which is a good way to go, but you can also experience guided meditations. So, if you’re having trouble meditating on your own, use the guided sequences to have a calming voice walk you through meditating anywhere from 3 minutes to a half-hour.
They also have programs you can follow which is a great way to get into the habit of meditation. Each day you get a different guided meditation sequence. Calm has programs from one week to 21 days.
The benefits of meditation for depression are real. You can get a lot out of this if you give it a chance. If it gives you even a minute of peace from your symptoms, isn’t it worth the try?
